2006 Landscape Ontario Award

This downtown Toronto terrace is aesthetically appealing from all angles.

Project Overview:

Design Features

High terrace, movable furniture, large flowering trees

Service

Working together to design and build a space that worked for many different uses.

Teamwork

Unique challenges of a high rise terrace required teamwork between engineers, architects and our staff

For both corporate gatherings and daily employee use

A large ellipse-shaped stone planter was used as a focal feature in this Toronto terrace. Large portable planters were positioned to hold large flowering trees to add vertical interest and seasonal colour. Light-coloured pre-cast pavers provide stark background contrast to the green vegetation when viewed from above and help minimize heat absorption. Moveable specialty site furnishings were chosen to provide seating areas that could be repositioned as desired.

A Team Effort

No project comes without its challenges. This was no exception: ILI Design Group collaborated with engineers and architects to ensure that variables such as high winds and the weight of materials had been taken into account. Our team also worked tirelessly with the help of skilled crane operators to move all necessary materials to the job site in a timely manner, without compromising the safety of pedestrian and vehicular traffic below.
